Can't subscribe to groups

I can't subscribe to any groups. The "Load List" feature does not produce any results and crashes a few minutes into the search. Direct subscription does not work either. No error message is displayed. Access to the news server via port 119 works fine with other newsreaders.
Xnntp 0.4.2 and 0.5a, PB G4 867 MHz, OSX 10.4.7.

Hm, it should at least produce a error-message.

Try the following:

ctrl-click "Load List" -> select "List Active" -> click "Load List" again and tell me the results.

It works - thanks! This is, what happened:
The program loaded (spinning icon) for approx 6 min and then reported "New groups loaded from server" in a pop-up. After a while the groups showed up. No crash occurred.
